I was amazed on how this aspect is also consider in my Arabian culture, where in many families especially the mother make sure that her daughter is not engaged in any illegal relationship with guys so that she still virgin until she get married (58). One of the things that comes into my mind, is that how through associating good morals and high values of a female by being virgin; and how this concept could be unfair to other women who were forced to lose their virginity through sexual assault, rape, and violence. Thus, these women will be also victims for the negative look or perspective of the society. For instance, when someone will try to marry a girl and then finds out that she is not virgin, even though she might explain to him the sexual rape she had been through that resulted in losing her virginity, the gloom might find it as an excuse she made to cover her past relationships with different guys instead of sharing the same ground and be more willing to understand her. Living in a collective society where an individual reputation could have impact not only on him/herself but affect the whole family as well, I was able to understand why Sophie's mother tried to test her every week in order keep her virgin and also, save both her and the family reputation (85).
